Tutoring

Peer tutoring

The Learning Center is very proud of our peer tutors, who are all current MCTC students. They have been recommended to become tutors by their instructors and have received ongoing tutor training to help them learn more about communications, learning, thinking, and our MCTC curriculum. They enjoy working with others, and they want you to succeed in school. Our tutors can help you by sharing their strategies for learning, explaining concepts you need more help with, showing you how to use your textbooks more effectively, and giving you opportunities to practice your skills while getting immediate feedback about how you are doing. They cannot, however, be your teachers or be a substitute for attending class. If you would like to apply to be a tutor, please complete the application (see link below) and submit to Learning Center, room T 4300.

Walk-in tutoring

The Learning Center offers tutoring on a walk-in basis as well as by appointment. We have Three professional tutors, called CLAs, who tutor Math and Health Occupations. Also, our peer tutors assist students on a walk-in basis anytime they do not have an appointment. Please ask at the front desk for directions to the appropriate tutor.

Group study

If you are interested in forming a study group for a class you are taking or teaching, please call 612-659-6140. If we have a tutor for the course, we will try to arrange a time for students to meet once per week in a group format. If we do not have a tutor, we will try to find someone as soon as possible. Please understand that sometimes we are unable to find a tutor for some courses.
